Paper Summary:

This is an autobiographical essay expressing the author's experiences of living in a small farm town in Northern Italy. The essay, describes the life of the people who live there and how it is different from America.

From the Paper:

"The hills of Vesio were so green that summer you could easily mistake them for a painting. At the edge of one hill, there was a valley just below, and then another hill rising up against the horizon directly behind it. The sky always seemed to be covered with wispy, white clouds that sat stationary in the sky. The sun shone in the afternoon, but it was a muted brightness. It was like a cool spring day in the middle of June. The sun made small shadows on the ground, from the house, the trees, and the clouds above. There were rows and rows of grape vines that seemed to go on for miles. They extended across the hills and from one house to the next; you could see each of the vineyards, in neat rows along the hills. There were acres and acres of farmland as well. You could see the squares of land, different shades of green, plowed in different directions, almost as if you were looking out the window of an airplane. The clotheslines hung from branches of nearby trees and were covered with white bed sheets and aprons. This was the life and land of the people of Vesio -- simple, pure, and peaceful."
