Blake himself was apprenticed to James Basire. an engraver specializing in antiquarian and topographical work. It was during this apprenticeship that Blake learned the artistic skills which would serve him well when he turned to poetry. Many of his volumes of poetry and individual poems are augmented by engravings created by Blake..."
