War Comparison

War Comparison
A comparison of the War in Iraq to the American Revolution.
1,227 words (approx. 4.9 pages) | 5 sources | MLA | 2004

Paper Summary:

This paper examines how, when major decisions are to be made, the past seems to resurface, and history is examined once more; the War in Iraq does exactly this. By analyzing and breaking the war into its key elements, it shows how they are comparable to those of the American Revolution. It also shows how some characteristics of the United States now appear to parallel those of 18th century England, which never conceived the fact that it would lose the war with America.

From the Paper:

"Another large issue among nations is the U.S. decision to act unilaterally. Many countries will remain "neutral" in what SAIRI (Supreme Assembly of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq) calls a US-British "invasion" of Iraq (Georgi). Very few nations have shown support for U.S. action in Iraq. This is much like Britain's situation throughout the American Revolution. England failed to receive support as France, Netherlands, and Spain backed Colonial troops. Although Iraq has not received support from other major countries, "more than 5,000 Arab volunteers had traveled to join the campaign to repel coalition forces (Taszar Air Base)." If volunteers continue to join Iraq's campaign, "liberating Iraq" will only become increasingly difficult for American troops."
