The paper analyzes the films "Enter the Dragon" and "The Five Deadly Venoms" and shows how they both demonstrate the personal, elemental nature of the reason for the violence that is occurring. The paper shows further how both films depict how only in the unity of all aspects of martial arts discipline, physically embodied in Lee and in the education of Yang Tieh and his mastery of his other brothers' skills, can there truly be justice, order, harmony and a sense of physical and ethical integrity in the world.

"Many martial arts films exhibit the common theme of restoring order and integrity to society and the family through the controlled use of violence. That sense of order is expressed through the metaphor of the human body--first, a body is damaged, and then through the cleansing mechanism of violence, order is paradoxically restored to society and the physical body. Most famously, perhaps, in Bruce Lee's iconic film "Enter the Dragon," Lee's sister is attacked and for the rest of the film Lee fights against the villain, in honor of her memory as well as to serve the purposes of an intelligence agency fighting drug trafficking. In "The Five Deadly Venoms" the young protagonist's family is split into various factions, all pursuing different martial arts disciplines. By avenging the death of a master and mastering all of the arts, the youngest, honest brother restores order to society and to the discipline of martial arts in general."
