"The film 'Their Eyes Were Watching God' (2005), based on the novel with the same name written by Zora Neale Hurston, was largely disappointing. The film, because it was based on a novel, had to live up to the story that Hurston wrote in the late thirties. Had the film been an original piece, the scrutiny placed on it may not have been so intense; however, because it is an adaptation of a novel, many wanted to see if it could measure up to the original work."
