Paper Summary:

The paper discusses differences between two types of leadership: transactional and transformational leadership. These two styles of leadership are used every day in management in order to influence others. Furthermore, the paper discusses the dyadic interaction between a leader and a follower and determines in which cases a transactional leadership is more effective than a transformational one. In the discussion, the paper deals with the method in which a leader motivates subordinates and how to become a role model. The main idea of this is to highlight the ways by which followers pursue their leaders.

"Trying to compare them, we see that the two types of management fit for two different societies. While transactional leadership is specific for a well-ordered society, the transformational one is specific for the ones in a continuous an rapid but destabilizing change. The first focuses on social and economic exchanges while the second on organizational objectives and global change. The former is based on economic rewards the second on values and alternatives, trying to form new leaders. "
