This paper compares and contrasts two books about high-level Mafia operatives in the late 20th century. Each book presents a completely different perspective on the experience of being in the Mafia. "Wiseguy " (N. Pileggi), an oral history of Henry Hill, presents a more negative, anthropological view, while "Goombata" (Cummings and Volkman) presents a more novel-like depiction of the life of John Gotti.
