Restorative Justice and Mental Adjustment in urban America," Stephanie Milton suggests that the United States look beyond the punitive criminal justice system to seek a system that focuses on rehabilitating criminals instead of punishing them. Many agree with Milton's position, suggesting that today's criminal justice system simply demoralizes and punishes criminals, only to eventually let them back out on the streets, worse than they once were."
