Paper Summary:

This paper discusses how the clear cut guidelines that gave earlier generations directions are falling by the wayside. That is not to say however that anomie will become the norm and that these values and those imposed by organized religion are being lost completely. According to the paper, religion still plays a large part in Western life, unlike the society proposed by Marx and Weber.

"Max Weber and Emile Dukheim were two early sociologists whose work focused on the interaction of religion and society. However, these two men approached this topic from different perspectives. Weber had a rationalistic point of view, believing that interactions of the world could be explained strictly in terms of rationality. However, Emile Durkheim believed religion played an important part in terms of defining human interaction. These two men are often paired when discussing early sociology. This frequent comparison and contrast of their approaches to sociology may be explained by their contributions to the early days of the profession. However, such efforts to compare and contrast the approaches of these two men naturally arise from how they both complement and oppose each other. "
