"The Holocaust stands as the major historical horror of this century and as evidence of the degree to which human beings can torment other human beings. This event was largely unknown to the American public at the time, but after the war the immensity of the crimes committed by the Nazis was made apparent. Ever since, the Holocaust has been explored by writers, dramatists, and historians in an effort to learn more and to find how such a thing could happen, generally with the intent to see that it never happens again. Schindler's List is only the most recent film to address an aspect of this era, explored before that in the novel of the same name and by many historians.

In the novel Schindler's List by Thomas Kenneally, the story of the Holocaust is told from a dual point of view--that of the Jewish people who are downtrodden, rounded up and taken to camps, murder.."
