↶ Look Inside

Paper Summary:

Style is a defining characteristic among poets. We are struck when a poet captures an aspect of life and puts it into a new perspective for us. Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson are two such poets who bring new insight to the world through their style of poetry. The paper shows that Frost's poetry often finds moments of epiphany through experiencing ordinary moments, and Dickinson's poetry often ventures into areas of the surreal while she ponders life's mysteries. This paper examines the styles and techniques of Frost and Dickinson that set them apart from other poets. It includes brief analyses of several of their poems.

From the Paper:

"Another popular poem that examines death in a new way is "I Heard a Fly Buzz When I Died." Wilson describes this poem as "chemical" (Wilson). This cannot be denied. The poem is eerie in that the poet seems to be speaking to us from the other side of death. From this unique perspective, Dickinson has "distilled the results" of her study in this poem. (Wilson). These results are interesting and thought provoking."
