"The Latin Kings began in the Chicago area during the 1940's. They started out as a social organization interested in advancing the Puerto Rico community. The motivation for the group's formation was an attempt to overcome the prejudices and injustices that the Puerto Rican community faced. However, by the 1970's members of the group had engaged in criminal activity with specific attention to narcotics trafficking. (Wikipedia, 2006)."
