Mental Health and Youth

Paper Summary:

Due to the increasing numbers of youths with alcoholic problems and related issues, such as mental health concerns, more research is being conducted to determine causes and preventative measures. This paper presents two studies which look at the issue of youth and substance abuse and causative factors.

From the Paper:

"The purpose of Magg and Irvin's study that used quantitative methodology for research was to determine differences in reported alcohol use and depressive symptoms among a sample of 524 African-American and Caucasian adolescents. Of specific interest was determining if ethnicity, gender and age predicted severity of scores obtained on the Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale (RADS) and Adolescent Drinking Index (ADI)."
