Two novels, Madame Bovary and Ethan Frome, share the theme of failure in similar parabolas of love. The characters in Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary and Edith Wharton's Ethan Frome all illustrate failure to find and maintain meaningful relationships and the subsequent effects this has on their lives throughout their respective novels."
