Judaism and Christianity

Paper Summary:

This paper compares the demographic, geographic, historical, ritual and philosophical aspects of Judaism and Christianity. The paper explains that the Old Testament portion of the Bible is shared between Judaism and Christianity; however, the point of divergence is that Christians emphasize the New Testament, based upon their savior Jesus Christ. According to the paper, modern expression and beliefs of Judaism and Christianity are radically different due entirely to the historical and arguably holy figure of Jesus Christ.

From the Paper:

"Christianity is a religion which in essence is rational, while the Jewish religions is world denying and to an extent mystical. However, the practical exercise of the Jewish religions finds its expression in the adherence to the Law. This law is the way to live in order to please God, who in the Old Testament is wrathful and willing to inflict horrible punishment. This is a necessary trait, considering the necessity of adhering to the rules, as fear is a proven and effective instrument of coercion, apparently not unknown to God."
