The Neolithic period, which accounts for a considerable improvement of the evolution of man, is often considered a revolution in the history of the human kind. Next, the author discusses the Mesopotamian, Egyptian and the early Greek civilizations.

An important element of the society was however slavery. Unlike other parts of the antique world, they were not totally limited in their rights, and were in general war prisoners."
