This paper compares and contrasts the themes and settings of "Frankenstein" and "Solaris". It explains that although each novel is of a different genre, "Solaris" a Gothic novel and "Frankenstein" a science fiction novel, they have corresponding aspects. "In Mary Shelly's story, Victor Frankenstein's thinks he can create wonderful new life, but the creation turns out too horrible and Frankenstein turns away in repugnance. Everywhere the Frankenstein "monster" goes, he is faced with disgust or hatred of the unknown. Even when he finds a family and learns their language and culture, he is rejected. Lonely and in need of someone else like himself, Frankenstein wants a bride, similar in nature to himself.
