Paper Summary:

In this article, the writer compares and contrasts Friedrich Engels and Sigmund Freud. The writer points out Engels' materialistic perspective and his views of production as the basis of the social order. In contrast, the writer also looks at Sigmund Freud and his notions of psychoanalysis as it relates to his views of social order.

From the Paper:

"Friedrich Engels was a historical materialist who saw production and the exchange of its products as the fundamental basis of the social order, giving rise to social relations and ideas. In contrast to Engels' materialist perspective, Sigmund Freud developed a system of ideas he called "psychoanalysis" as a way of understanding both the individual and the individual's relation to the social order."
