'In Virginia Woolf's "Orlando" and in Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "Herland", two very different approaches to female history are constructed for the purposes of feminist debate. The latter depicts a future feminist utopia, the former a feminist past history where women's contribution, although real and valid, is invisible to the eyes. Both adopt a playful tone to find some space for women, specifically women writers, to articulate both their sexuality and creative expression in a world that has not only denied them education and voice, but denied even the existence of a desire for female sensuality and self-expression."
