Listen to the words of Langston Hughes' poem called "Dreams" and then consider what he says about dreams before analyzing the two stories: "Hold fast to dream For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly Hold fast to dreams For when dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow" (Langston Hughes). Racism, oppression and escapism are descriptive words identifying the problems the main characters have in both plays and these are an important part of their dreams. The fragile characters in both stories have dreams that they want for their lives, which often paints a distorted reality in the lives of the characters."
