Obedience plays an important role in both the Exodus and the Exile. Simply put: All the Israelites had to do was to obey the laws that God gave to Moses. One of these laws was to put no other gods before God. Yet, throughout the travels of the Israelites through the wilderness to the Exile, the Israelites had problems in putting God first and obeying His commandments.
