This paper is a comparison between two Tolstoy works, "War and Peace" and "The Death of Ivan Ilych." It examines three themes common to both works and discusses the similarities between the main characters as they relate to these themes. Sources such as Vladimir Nabokov are cited.
From the Paper:
"In two of his works, War and Peace and "The Death of Ivan Ilyich," Leo Tolstoy touches upon several themes. One of the more predominant of these themes is the questioning of life, of ones existence. Another theme is the loss of nature in the two main characters, Pierre Bezukhov and Ivan Ilyich, with the use of peasant characters to bring nature into their lives. The third theme is the Everyman characteristic of both of these classics tales."
