"The Inverness Center is a middle-level alternative school that was established in 1993, in Maryland. After two years of success the center lists factors thought to be important in their results. Constant communication is a key factor in the relationship between the center and home schools. The center is to provide services including educational remediation, therapeutic, and life skills for the troubles students. The students keep a journal and do homework and receive points for behavior efforts. They have a mentor that they meet with each day. They receive privileges based on points accumulated. Service learning is also a part of the program. When enough points are accumulated and the student attains level two status, they become eligible to reach the highest level and return to their home school within four weeks. Counselors monitor the student once they return."
