This paper reviews one of the most extraordinary events in Western history, the First Industrial Revolution, which began in Britain in the later 18th and early 19th century. This event involved so much change that it certainly deserves the title revolution. The paper discusses how it changed the shape of the entire world, beginning in Britain and spreading outward. In effect, massive technological changes sparked equally massive socioeconomic and cultural changes.
