SIDS is the highest cause of infant death, and there are many risk factors that can be changed. These factors include mothers' smoking, soft bedding, overheating, and covered airways. In 1992 the American Academy of Pediatrics suggested that infants be placed to sleep on their backs. Since then, the SIDS rate went down by almost half."
