"The facts that are related to African American history in the US are that initially some Africans came to the New World with Columbus. It was later that the concept of slavery arose due to economic exploitation and African slaves began to arrive in the Spanish colonies in the Caribbean in 1502 and came to what was to become the United States of America in 1619. Over the next 250 years, some African Americans were freed or freed themselves and the institution of slavery was banned by the US in 1808, and states from Maine to Maryland gradually enacted abolition laws."More papers on Resistance to Slavery:
