1,885 words (approx. 7.5 pages) | 7 sources | MLA | 2008 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses the history and current conditions in the Southeast Asian state of Myanmar. In particular, the paper discusses how Myanmar flourished in the past and the role of the junta in stifling Myanmar's growth since coming to power. The paper suggests that by strictly controlling trade, speech, and press, the junta has effectively let globalization, for the large part, pass by Myanmar.

From the Paper:

"The future of Myanmar is a very uncertain one as there have been no major steps taken by the junta to democratize. This military regime has controlled Myanmar for nearly half a century and has only held back the people. By strictly controlling trade, speech, and press, the junta has effectively let globalization for the large part pass by Myanmar. As a result today the economy is in shambles and corruption is widespread. There are many human rights violations especially in the warring border states with large numbers of ethnic minorities live. The symbol of a democratic Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi remains under house, and as long as this is apparent there will be no democratic Myanmar."
