Whole Foods Market
Analyzes the business case of Whole Foods Market, a pioneer in the organic foods marketplace.
3,050 words (approx. 12.2 pages) | 15 sources | APA | 2008 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper relates that, although Whole Foods Market (WF) was not the first entrant into the organic foods marketplace, it was a faster growing company than the leader, Trader Joes. However, in this case, WF's stock is under-performing the market because of a scandal caused by statements in the CEO's blog. The author utilizes several management analysis tools including an internal and external analysis, PESTDG, Porters 5 Forces and TOWS matrix. The paper presents an alternative assessment that notes the dramatic growth of WF, which it predicts will continue to increase along with the market and outdistance its competitors. The author presents recommendations and implementations to continue this growth and profitability.

From the Paper:

"WF has yet to move beyond the US and, to a limited extent, Great Britain. It is curious that WF has not chosen to penetrate the Canadian or Mexican market. Given the rapidly-rising incomes in Canada, low tariff barriers and commonalities in culture, it is surprising that WF doesn't expand in that direction. It is equally surprising that WF has not expanded to Mexico. Given their Austin headquarters location, the border is less than 500 miles away. There is good precedent for this: WalMart failed in Great Britain and Germany but has become a dominant supplier in Mexico."
