This paper analyzes the internal and external factors that impact the planning function of management. It discusses why planning is so important for an organization. The paper then focuses on the case of Hewlett Packard (HP) and discusses how the external and internal factors impact how planning is done and how managers carry out those plans.

"Internal factors that impact the planning process of management are organization, globalization, and support. The organization of a company is a key factor in the planning process of management. Like the military, the organizational structure is a chain of command. This structure allows managers to make planning decisions and implement these decisions by delegating tasks to employees. Without this structure, there is chaos. Many companies undergo organizational changes when new management is hired. An example of this is HP. The current CEO of HP was hired two and half years ago. At that time, organization changes were implemented and several new organization structures have bee implement since. However, it is important that for future and current product planning, that the structure reflect the products and the market. The current structure of HP reflects this structure."
