From the Paper:

"Signs R Us had always had loyal and steady customers. Walter's skill as a craftsman was also extremely important, undoubtedly, and it didn't hurt that during the 1940s and 1950s there was a burgeoning need for neon signs for such places as drive-in theatres and other new novelties, not to mention the oil companies in the 1960s and the onslaught of new grocery stores advertising weekly specials. But in later years, stores decided to go with a "one sign fits all" approach, and therefore, Signs R Us lost a lot of steady clients. This fact became a trend and by 1988, sales had fallen 25%, which is where we end with Wilma and her financial statement fiasco. "
