This paper discusses a case study that reflects upon the banking industry's interaction with the general media at a banking industry convention. "Chase Manhattan Bank is in attendance at the American Bankers Association convention being held in Honolulu, Hawaii. The overall banking industry is not performing well with profits being low and many international loans in default. As part of the convention Chase Manhattan sponsors an informal gathering designed to encourage interaction between the general media and the banking industry executives in attendance. Morley Safer of '60 Minutes' with his '60 Minutes' film crew has been in attendance at the convention all week and has been consistently turned away. Safer and his film crew wish to attend the informal media gathering being sponsored by Chase Manhattan Bank."
