From the Paper:

"Merck & Co., Inc. is one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Considering this, the management and financial situations and maneuvers of the company are revealing, in that they provide an example towards which other companies aspire in their similar quest for success. The management of Merck is highly adept at capitalizing upon the human capital available to it, doing so efficiently and with high levels of employee contentment and satisfaction. Through effective management of human capital, the other aspects of the company are likewise facilitated, with deficiencies often being solved through mergers. Should the company feel itself to be lacking in a particular area, as opposed to going through costly and uncertain research and development, Merck takes a path both more certain and immediate."
