Cultural Variations

From the Paper:

"There are a number of variations in mediation that are affected by the culture in which the mediation is to take place. The culture affects conflict resolution by instilling in the proceedings certain pre-conceived notions on issues and interests held by the participants. The participants may not even understand that they are being affected in that manner, but the mediator should understand them, and should be directive enough to guide the participants past those misconceptions. Addressing the cultural variations is an issue that I would spend more in-depth time in the classroom if I were asked to teach a class on mediation."
