The organization under review is the Lutheran General Hospital located in Park Ridge, Illinois. This is a 450-bed level-one trauma center using evidence-based practice in what is also a teaching hospital. "Evidence-based practices are known to improve trauma care and to ensure the best care and address inconsistencies standardized approaches are developed following by education and even re-education of staff and then the measurement of outcomes. The work entitled: "Strengthening Hospitals: Changing Organizations to Improve Patient Care" states that in the 1980s "there were widespread reports of a nursing shortage in the United States. That same year, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Pew Charitable Trusts announced a jointly funded national initiative to provide better patient care through innovative, hospital-wide restructuring."
