Paper Summary:
The paper applies the Burke-Litwin Causal Model to FedEx to show us the cause and effect of several variables and how they affect the company as a whole. The paper discusses FedEx's organizational structure, the task requirements and individual skills/abilities needed, FedEx's management style, informational system, marketing structure and work climate. The paper opines that this model does a great job of linking the variables that affect an organization and how they are interrelated in the overall business environment.
From the Paper:
"The Burke-Litwin Causal Model is a very complex model that can be used to analyze any company. The transactional variables are a key aspect to this model and can show how the company is performing as a whole. These variables, structure, management practices, and systems, are more operational and are more incremental with respect to organization change (Burke & Litwin, 1992). Applying this to FedEx can show us the cause and effect of these variables and how they affect the company as a whole."
