"The Parmalat Scandal: An Overview The following paper will review the Parmalat scandal by examining the financial basis of the company, the financial and accounting activities and principles involved in its 2003 melt-down, the financial structure of the organization (as well as the unsettling discrepancy between the company's debt and its equity situation) and what the recent events portend for Parmalat's leveraging ambitions. As should become apparent, the events of late 2003 were devastating, but that does not mean that they are insuperable. The financial basis of the Parlamat Corporation has historically lain in the agro-food business and in its adroit exploitation of that industry."
