"Information Systems for Managers Isom's vision for Cigna P&C is critical to the transformation process. His vision and the reengineering initiative are intricately related in that each would be pointless without the other. By stepping into Cigna P&C and first implementing his reengineering initiative based on three operational pillars: cost cutting, increased productivity, and reduced headcount, Isom laid the foundation for the greater revolutionary processes that were forthcoming. As the study illustrates, Isom's initial reengineering initiative was somewhat limited in that it was structurally confined to operational parameters. Later, when he was approached with a greater reengineering plan built around the transformation of the IT function within CIGNA P&C, Isom recognized immediately that this was the method to bring CIGNA P&C into alignment with his vision."
