Paper Summary:

This paper describes the story of Violet Winspear's "Time of the Temptress" and relates the characters to theories from the book "The Psychology of Women" by Margaret Matlin. Through the themes of power versus powerless and romantic relationship and marriage, the author points out the intra and interpersonal and socio structural factors affecting the main character's life in the book. The paper concludes that romantic novels are popular among women because they are stories of love, which become an escape from reality, a trip back in time or prospecting for the future.

From the Paper:

"The initial basis of deep affection sprouts from physical attraction. The physique of Wade was a big factor in getting Eve to pay attention to him. Physical attraction is present in both men and women but men openly admit being drawn to the physical attributes of the woman at first glance. In fact, it is a strong basis of love and relationship. Women are attracted to men because they feel a certain kind of security and protection where as, men are delighted to be with the woman who is beautiful, sensual and intelligent."
