A discussion of the book "Trick of the Eye," by Jane Stanton Hitchcock.
Written in 2009; 1,740 words; 1 sources; MLA; $ 56.95
Paper Summary:
This paper discusses how Jane Stanton Hitchcock's book "Trick of the Eye" illustrates the principle that external appearances and first impressions are often very misleading and should not be used as a basis for the evaluation of others' personalities. The writer analyzes the book and shows how the main character, Faith, is misled by her trust in her own judgment and the favorable first impressions made by the characters John Noland, Harry Pitt and Frances Griffin. By the end of the book, the reader is made to realize that nothing is as it appears.
From the Paper:
"Faith discovers throughout her experiences that there are some whose appearances differ majorly from what is inside their soul. Faith has only one friend whom she feels she can rely on and respect, and who seems to be as devoted to her and she is to him. However, the real Harry Pitt is much more than just a poor old antique and art collector who only needs some company in his last years. Indeed, it is later revealed to the protagonist that this friend of hers was but a puppet controlled by an insane old woman looking to carry out her dubious campaign. As it turns out, Harry had been hired by the prosperous widow Frances Griffin to collect for her a brand new daughter (Frances' daughter, Cassandra, had been murdered twenty-five years prior). He was not the selfless individual Faith had perceived him to be."
