"Throughout the novel, The Poisonwood Bible, the apparent differences of the way of life in the Congo is evident. Every character whose mind the reader enters both agrees and understands the hardships the Price family must endure in this alternate world. This is a world without fast food restaurants and cable television. They live in a clay brick home with no plumbing and an outdoor latrine. They no longer have the luxury of driving, but instead walk to wherever they must go. Weather and wildlife put their lives in danger.
