This poem describes how the title of T.S. Eliot's poem, "The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock" and the name of the character in the poem, as well as Eliot's use of imagery and repetition, effectively illustrate the poem's theme of a man who cannot communicate effectively and, thus, will always be alone.
From the Paper:
"The title is one of the most effective parts of the poem because it is such a contrast to the actual subject of the poem. Titling the poem as "the love song" makes the reader expect to be reading a love poem. Instead, the reader finds a poem about a person's inability to share himself and his expectation that he will never find love. This creates a sense of sadness about the poem, because it suggests that this poem is about as close to a love song that Prufrock will ever get. The name given to the character in the poem is also interesting because it is a name that has no romantic ring to it at all. In fact, the name itself seems absurd and creates a clear image of the character expressing himself in the poem."
