"The Blue Hotel"
An analysis of Stephen Crane's work "The Blue Hotel".
1,263 words (approx. 5.1 pages) | 1 source | APA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper attempts to demonstrate how Stephen Crane's "The Blue Hotel" is an example of excellence in the use of symbolism and metaphor. The paper provides many examples of the powerful symbolism and metaphor used and shows how Crane weaves several literary diatribes unto the unsuspecting reader. Crane's life lessons that one should not be so quick to judge and become angry is highlighted.

From the Paper:

"Scully embellished the men with what he thought of as the best accommodations, although readers could envision the enormous stove overtaking the sitting room and the water so icy cold it chilled the men's faces. The symbolism in Crane's description is tantalizing, and without the this descriptive writing style one would see The Blue Hotel as merely a run down shack. As the guests began to settle in, the weary eyes of the Swede and the flamboyant gestures of the cowboy perk the interest of the reader."
