This paper reviews the book "Subversive Orthodoxy" by Robert Inchausti, which he wrote to correct misconceptions about Christianity. This paper discusses the premise of the book, which according to the writer, is that Christianity is about the need to subvert (overthrow) ideas and expose them and that orthodoxy achieves that very objective.

"By collecting together in one book the contributions of macrohistorians, social activists and avant-garde novelists Inchausti shows that despite media coverage to the contrary, Christianity is not "inherently reactionary, unconsciously wedded to class, race, and gender prejudices, bound by foundational metaphysics and littered with outworn superstitions" (p. 10). Inchausti says that the thinkers represented "reimagine the Judeo-Christian epic in global, transcultural, and macrohistorical terms and in the process refigure our relationship to God and our place in the cosmos" (p. 12).
"Inchausti hopes his efforts accomplish a number of things. He wants to help people notice that Christian thinkers have made cutting edge contributions to contemporary thought and he wants to bring the religiously suspicious to a place of reconsideration regarding the "paradox of the incarnation and the scandal of the cross" (p. 12). He notes that "the Christian mysteries require from us not that we construct a better world, but that we love and serve the one we are given" (p. 188). Much of the Christian social gospel approach is in trying to 'fix' rather than 'love and serve' our world."
