Physical Therapy for Children
A look at "An Introduction to Early Childhood Special Education" by Susan Ward and Linda Seto.
1,019 words (approx. 4.1 pages) | 1 source | MLA | 2007 United States

Paper Summary:

The paper discusses the book "An Introduction to Early Childhood Special Education", which focuses on physical therapy services. The paper portrays the authors' contention that physical therapy is a very valuable service, especially at the preschool level. The paper reveals that some parents, however, are reluctant to commit their child to physical therapy. The paper explains the authors believe that if gross motor movements are not dealt with at a young age, the problems the child has could also cause a lack of self-esteem, which could have ramifications throughout childhood and even into adulthood.

From the Paper:

"One of the jobs of a physical therapist is assess what the child may need by "analyzing the physical environments" of the child; this ensures that the child who is receiving PT has as much "independent mobility" and safety factored into that environment as possible. This is an assessment; and by paying close attention to the physical environment that the child with special needs lives and plays in, the therapist knows how the large muscle movements are functioning as the child jumps, climbs, runs, plays ball and so forth."
