"The actions depicted by a young woman in her early 20 take place in the height of the communist power, when the agricultural reform was the element which would change the look of the Vietnamese society. The entire novel represents the voyage of the young woman; yet it is not by chance that the author chose a trip to set her plan of action. The voyage has a symbolic meaning for the author. It is the moment in which she accepts the inevitability of the events that marked so profoundly the history of Vietnam."
