1,056 words (approx. 4.2 pages) | 1 source | MLA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

This paper discusses Howard Gardner's book, "Intelligence Reframed: Multiple Intelligences for the 21st Century", which is an update of the original 1983 multiple intelligence theory. The paper describes the main focus of the book as being concerned with the evolution of the ideal person and the definition or identification of those standards in society thereof. The paper further discusses how the book addresses myths about multiple intelligences as well as compiles a list of FAQ's regarding the application of multiple intelligence thereof. In addition, the paper examines Gardner's outline of an ideal educational plan that is heavily steeped in the powers of deduction and in extrapolating guiding principles in terms of cognitive processing that are visible in each system of education, or field of education.

From the Paper:

"The author provides a sense of clarity, systemization, and cohesiveness in the means by which he spends the greater part of the book suggesting that there are specific patterns of learning, and teaching that can be clarified, identified and distilled in innovative teaching practice and creates broader perspective in an intellectual sense. However, the author fails to acknowledge or take into account the fundamental value of the already existing forms of knowledge. Knowledge by nature must be organized, and if we are to continue to define patterns of learning instead of specifically addressing the substance of learning, and the concurrent insight that specifically identified topics of education bring us about specific areas of expertise, then we are forgetting the original value of education itself. "
