Paper Summary:

In this paper, the author concentrates on Moses Herzog of the novel "Herzog," and discusses the difference between being a Jew and being Jewish.

From the Paper:

"Bellow likes to intellectualize Jews. And often some of his characters such as Moses Herzog either believe they are insane or crazy, or let other people make that decision for them. I think it is important to realize that Moses Herzog is a Jew but not necessarily Jewish. That is an interesting distinction because as a Jew and as an intellectual, Herzog is expected to suffer."
