This paper reviews Max Lucado's book, "He Chose the Nails" and relates that Lucado's focus in the book is on Christ's sacrifices rather than his suffering. The paper further relates that Lucado frames the crucifixion as an act of divine love and explores what we gain from every indignity suffered by Jesus. According to the paper, Max Lucado's intent is to make the reader gain a greater appreciation for Christ's sacrafice.
From the Paper:
"The crown of thorns is the first of the gifts Christ offers. Jesus Christ was without sin. With each prick of the crown he took on the sins of the world. Feelings of guilt, and shame, distance from God, all of these things were taken on by Christ when the crown was placed upon his head. The weight of humanity's sin rested upon his head. Lucado wants us to take a moment and really feel the weight of that gift and what it means in our lives today. The Lord cares this much for us to bear the fruit of our sins."
