1,978 words (approx. 7.9 pages) | 1 source | APA | 2009 United States

Paper Summary:

In this paper, the writer examines Harry Potter's friendships in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" that revolve around the characters of Malfoy, Ron, Hagrid and Hermione. The writer analyzes these friendships and their importance in the book.

From the Paper:

"The importance of friendship to Harry is made clear from the beginning: he is a lonely little boy, who does not have friends. Even his own family treats him as an unwanted and unwelcome addition. Rowling makes clear that Harry has no friends at his old school: "At school, Harry had no-one. Everybody knew that Dudley's gang hated that odd Harry Potter in his baggy old clothes and broken glasses" (Rowling, 1997, page 27). It is also clear that Harry spends a lot of time shut in the cupboard when he should have been at school. The lack of childhood friends means that Harry has an incomplete view of the world, it seems."
