Gregor Samsa
A character analysis of Gregor Samsa from Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis".
1,730 words (approx. 6.9 pages) | 3 sources | MLA | 2005 United States

Paper Summary:

Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis," is a fictional narrative documenting the life of the main character, Gregor Samsa, after he awoke one morning as a giant insect. This paper aims to analyze the lifestyle and character qualities of Gregor Samsa by exploring his emotions and his reactions to his changes.

From the Paper:

"Kafka's creative use of language hinders the possibility of any single concrete interpretation of the story's purpose. With the exception of Gregor's metamorphosis and his relaxed approach to his situation, "The Metamorphosis" is delivered in a purely realistic manner. Close attention is paid to detail with the descriptions of Gregor, his family and there environment. Kafka's descriptions are so well executed that one is able to visualize the story as if it were happening in real life. At no point during the story does Kafka suggest that perhaps Gregor simply thinks he has become this insect, as throughout the piece he is portrayed only as an insect with no human references."
